Greensburg, PA - For the tenth consecutive year, the Seton Hill University Chemistry club has received the American Chemical Society’s (ACS) Outstanding Student Affiliates Chapter Award. The SHU Chemistry Club - ranked among the top 29 in the nation - accepted its award at the ACS National Meeting in Anaheim, California in March.

At the end of each academic year, all ACS students affiliated Chemistry Clubs are required to submit an annual report of club activities. Based on review of these reports, chapters are selected by the ACS Committee on Education for recognition as Outstanding, Commendable or Honorable Mention chapters. Seton Hill’s Chem Club activities for 2002-2003 included highway cleanup at Twin Lakes Park with Adopt-a-Highway, the hosting of a "chemistry night" for a local Girl Scout group, donating "clean chemistry" items (soap, shampoo, conditioners, and feminine products) to the Blackburn Center Against Domestic & Sexual Violence, hosting a Mole Day celebration on campus and participating in a week-long celebration of National Chemistry Week at the Carnegie Science Center.

The American Chemical Society was chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1876 and is the world’s largest scientific society with more than 163,000 members. ACS advances knowledge and research through scholarly publishing, scientific conferences, information resources for education, and business and professional development efforts.
