As part of a social action project, Adjunct Instructor Katie Monsour’s Senior Integrative Seminar students recently raised $1,000 for Going Home Greyhounds, of Wexford, Pa. Members of Monsour’s class baked dog treats and sold them at both the Greensburg and Latrobe Wal-Mart to raise the money for the organization.

“In only three hours, they raised $1,000. We are so pleased with the result and happy to help such a worthwhile organization,” said Monsour.

Founded in 1995, Going Home Greyhounds is a nonprofit organization that provides refuge, aid and care for retired racing greyhounds until they are placed in permanent homes. The organization is administered by a four-member Board of Directors and 75 volunteers who assist in various activities such as hauling retired racers from racing kennels, bathing newly retired dogs, fostering greyhounds in their home, doing meet and greets, participating in local parades and hosting various fundraising activities. As of December 2009, Going Home Greyhounds found homes for 1,902 retired racing greyhounds. For more information, click here.
