NATIONAL CATHOLIC CENTER FOR HOLOCAUST EDUCATION AT SETON HILL HOSTS LENTEN FORUMS ON GIBSON’S "THE PASSION …" & THE "JESUS" FILM GENRE

Greensburg, PA – The National Catholic Center for Holocaust Education (NCCHE) at Seton Hill will host two Lenten Forums on the "The Passion…" and the "Jesus" film genre as part of its spring schedule of activities. Below is a complete list of the NCCHE’s spring events, all of which are open to the public.

"The Passion": Responses and Reactions Sunday, March 28, 2004, 3-5:30 p.m. Sixth Presbyterian Church, Pittsburgh. A discussion of the Mel Gibson film and its implications for Jewish-Christian relations. Sponsored in part by NCCHE in cooperation with The First Century Project.

Lenten Forum Part 1: Panel and Discussion on Mel Gibson’s movie "The Passion of the Christ" Monday, March 29, 2004, 7 p.m. Lynch Lecture Hall on Seton Hill’s campus. The featured panelists are Seton Hill faculty members Michael Cary, D.A., Dorothy Jacko, SC, Th.D., Fran Leap, Ph.D. Guest speakers include Rabbi Sara Rae Perman and Rev. Peter Pettit, Ph.D.

Lenten Forum Part 2: Presentation on Images of the Jews in "Jesus" Films Wednesday, March 31, 2004, 7:30 p.m., 206 Administration Building on Seton Hill’s campus. Dr. Fran Leap will examine the images of Jews as portrayed in the "Jesus" film genre. She will illustrate her points using sample clips from several films.

Mr. Robert Mendler’s story of Holocaust survival Friday, April 16, 2004, 2 p.m., 313 Administration Building on Seton Hill’s campus. Mr. Mendler survived ten different concentration camps including Auschwitz. He lost his father, mother, brother, and 72 aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mr. Mendler tells his story so that we will remember and work to promote peace, understanding and tolerance.
