Renee Starek, of Penn Township, Pa., has been named the director of CareerWorks at Seton Hill University. In her position, Starek will assist students with career planning through enhancing job skills and resume writing to learning interview tactics and professional networking.

“I began at a private, Catholic, liberal arts college so it feels good to get back to my roots,” said Starek, who has more than 16 years of graduate and undergraduate professional development advising experience. “I look forward to working with Seton Hill students as they pursue internships and jobs.”

Most recently, Starek served as the assistant director of the Career and Professional Development Center at Carnegie Mellon University where she created the annual Making Connections for Success, a networking event for students to meet potential employers, managed a database with more than 800 student internship opportunities and implemented an internship networking event, Internships: The Inside Scoop, which was nominated for the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) 2012 Innovation Excellence Award. Starek was responsible for tracking data to support current operations as well as student outcome data related to post-graduation plans; for the last decade, Starek had a 100 percent response rate for this data.

Starek earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Gannon University. She completed graduate work at Edinboro University and earned her Master of Arts degree in counseling with a concentration in student personnel.
