GREENSBURG, PA - The Seton Hill University production of “Lucky Stiff,” directed by Seton Hill alumnus Shawn Sturnick, opens Thursday, February 13, 2003 at 8:00 p.m. in Reeves Theatre at Seton Hill. Based on Michael Butterworth’s novel, “The Man Who Broke the Bank at Monte Carlo,” this quirky murder-mystery farce follows the exploits of an unassuming salesman who is forced to take the corpse of his recently murdered uncle on a week-long vacation to Monte Carlo. Should he succeed, he stands to inherit $6,000,000. Should he fail, the money goes to the Dog Home of Brooklyn. “Lucky Stiff,” a musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty, (authors of “Once on This Island,” “Ragtime” and the animated film “Anastasia”) won the prestigious Richard Rodgers Production Award for new musicals in 1988.

The following 10 Seton Hill students have been cast in the production: Nate Newell, son of Pat and Kathie Newell of Havre, MT and senior musical theatre major has been cast in the role of Harry Witherspoon; Sara Canter, daughter of Kathy and Jeff Canter of Fair Oaks, PA and junior musical theatre major has been cast in the role of Annabel Glick; Rose Marotta, daughter of Susan and Joe Marotta of Greensburg, PA and sophomore theatre major has been cast in the role of Rita la Porta; Dorien Belle, son of Darlene Lawrence of Philadelphia, PA and senior musical theatre major has been cast in the role of Vincent “Vinnie” DiRuzzio; Adam Altman, son of Linda K. Altman of Latrobe, PA and junior theatre major has been cast in the role of Luigi Gaudi; Matthew J. McDonough, son of John and Sue McDonough of St. Mary’s, PA and sophomore musical theatre major has been cast in the role of Man Number One; Ed Hughes, son of Teresa and Ed Hughes of Derry, PA and sophomore theatre major has been cast in the role of Man Number Two; Kristen Secrist, daughter of Robin and Gerald Secrist of West Newton, PA and junior theatre major, has been cast in the role of Woman Number One; Melissa Kowalski, daughter of Kim and Raymond Kowalski of New Kensington, PA and sophomore music education and theatre major has been cast in the role of Woman Number Two; and Matthew L. Starry, son of Louis and Carol Starry of Latrobe, PA and sophomore theatre and business major has been cast as The Dead Body of Anthony Hendon.

Allison M. Weakland, daughter of John and Kathy Weakland of Canonsburg, PA and sophomore theatre major is the stage manager for “Lucky Stiff,” while JoAnna Terwilliger, daughter of John and Anne Ponikvar of Canonsburg, PA and freshman theatre major will serve as assistant stage manager.

“Lucky Stiff” will be presented February 13, 14, 15, 20, 21 and 22 at 8:00 p.m.; February 16 and 22 at 2:00 p.m. and February 18, 19 and 21 at 10:30 a.m. All performances are staged at Reeves Theatre on the Seton Hill University campus.
