Seton Hill University will celebrate Earth Day on Wednesday, April 22, and Arbor Day on Friday, April 24, through two activities.

On April 22, Earth Day, at 4 p.m., the Seton Hill University Biology Club joins the University’s Gardening Club in revitalizing the flower garden in front of Reeves Library on Seton Hill’s Greensburg, Pa., campus.

“We hope that our volunteer efforts inspire others to give back to the campus and help beautify it,” said Heather Patterson, of Masontown, Pa., who is the president of the Biology Club.

On April 24, Arbor Day, the Seton Hill University World Affairs Forum will host a two-part Arbor Day event, “Celebration of the Earth” and “Celebration of the Tree” near DeChantal Hall on Seton Hill’s campus.

A “Celebration of the Earth” will be held from 2:30-3 p.m.

“The Earth Celebration includes using Buddhist Tibetan prayer flags. The energy of the prayers on the flags is blown into the wind and will bring joy. We will also be planting pumpkin seeds and preparing biodegradable tree prayer strips,” said Gabrielle White, of Greensburg, Pa., student president of the World Affairs Forum.

A “Celebration of the Tree” will be held from 3-3:30 p.m.

“During the ‘Celebration of the Tree,’ we will have an interfaith prayer and celebrate the tree. There will be Native American chants as well as poetry and recitations,” said White.

Seton Hill University’s Biology Club nurtures student awareness and fosters student growth in the understanding of all aspects of biological sciences through campus and community involvement. The Biology Club is one of more than 50 student clubs at Seton Hill.

The mission of the World Affairs Forum is to help develop a community of informed citizens by bringing together people of diverse and independent voice, politic, belief, idea, ability, vocation, learning, philosophy, and action. The goal of the Forum is to initiate, foster, and sustain a greater understanding of social, geopolitical, and cultural issues affecting our human condition, while encouraging individual and group action at all levels.
