Lyzona Marshall, assistant professor of business at Seton Hill University, is being recognized on Thursday, September 3, 2009, at the Women of Excellence Awards luncheon as one of New Pittsburgh Courier’s 2009 Women of Excellence in the category of education.

The New Pittsburgh Courier has been recognizing women who influence the African-American community for more than five years, however, the 2009 luncheon at the Westin William Penn is the second year they are hosting a formal event to honor 50 Women of Excellence.

“For being a businesswoman…philanthropist…entrepreneur…and moreover an African American woman, the Courier’s readership has nominated you [Lyzona Marshall]. For your desire to explore, ability to build work anew, and your creativity to reinvent traditions, we want to highlight you for your virtues of not only excellence but self awareness and high standards as well,” said Rod Doss, editor and publisher, New Pittsburgh Courier.

Prior to Marshall’s work as an assistant professor of business with Seton Hill University, she was the manager of the University’s E-Magnify women’s business center. Marshall still works as a business counselor for E-Magnify and has counseled over 150 entrepreneurs interested in starting or growing a business venture. She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Bethune Cookman University and her Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix. Marshall is currently pursuing her Doctor of Business Administration degree at the University of Phoenix. In 2007, Onyx Woman Magazine recognized Marshall as one of the “Amazing 10” in the Pittsburgh region.
