Seton Hill University will be the first Westmoreland County university to provide full tuition benefits for eligible veterans and their dependents under the new GI Bill®.

Seton Hill is making this opportunity available in conjunction with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs and the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program.

Both full-time graduate and undergraduate students are eligible for tuition benefits. The Yellow Ribbon Program will also cover highly qualified freshman students who wish to enroll in the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) program at Seton Hill. Through the LECOM program, students complete coursework toward a Bachelor of Science degree from Seton Hill University and then transition directly to LECOM, which has a location on Seton Hill’s campus beginning in August 2009.

“Seton Hill first welcomed veterans in 1946 when 40 World War II veterans were accepted as students. We are pleased to partner with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs to honor those who have served our nation by providing them with full tuition benefits,” said Seton Hill President JoAnne Boyle.
The full tuition benefit, which will take effect in the fall of 2009, is available to veterans who served a period of active duty after September 10, 2001 of at least 36 months; veterans who were honorably discharged from active duty for service connected disability and who served 30 continuous days after September 10, 2001; and individuals who are dependent eligible for Transfer of Entitlement under this bill based on the veteran’s service.

“In addition to receiving full tuition benefits, veterans and their dependents will receive a book allowance and monthly allowance for housing costs,” said Barbara Hinkle, vice president for Enrollment Services and Registrar at Seton Hill.
