Seton Hill University has been named a Military Friendly School® for its work in assisting service members and their families as they pursue an education. Now in its sixth year, the list is a data-driven resource for military students seeking education and captures best practices among schools in recruitment and retention of military students.

The Military Friendly Schools® designation is awarded to the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students and ensure their success in the classroom and after graduation. The list serves as the primary resource for service members and military families seeking education and has played a significant role over the past six years in capturing and advancing best practices in supporting military students on campuses across the country.

“Seton Hill has a long-standing tradition of supporting the nation’s military personnel, veterans and their families by providing them with the educational opportunities that allow them to begin a new chapter of their lives,” said Mary C. Finger, Ed.D., Seton Hill President. “At the end of World War II, Seton Hill welcomed 40 returning male veterans to what had been exclusively a women’s college so that these heroes could receive the education they so richly deserved.”

“Nearly 70 years later, Seton Hill remains committed to assisting veterans as well as military personnel – and their families – in understanding and obtaining their military educational benefits and, more important, providing the support they need to excel in and out of the classroom to make their transition to the college community seamless,” Finger continued.

The 2015 list of Military Friendly Schools® was compiled through extensive research and a free, data-driven, survey of more than 10,000 VA-approved schools nationwide. The list is compiled by Victory Media Inc., a veteran-owned business founded in 2001, which rates tens of thousands of institutions annually on their recruitment and retention of military personnel as civilian employees, students and franchisees.

In addition to the Military Friendly Schools® designation, Seton Hill has been ranked as a Best College for Veterans in the Northeast by U.S. News and World Report in both 2014 and 2015 – the first two years the publication honored institutions for their work with veterans.
