Greensburg, PA – Proof, by David Auburn will open Thursday, November 13, 2003 at Seton Hill. An instant success for new playwright Auburn, Proof received the 2001 Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award. Proof is currently being made into a movie starring Gwyneth Paltrow, who starred in the London stage production.

Proof Summary: The funeral of her father -- a famous mathematician that Catherine cared for instead of herself -- brings about a weekend of new romance and old demons for Catherine. The discovery of a notebook could hold the proof Catherine needs to reclaim her sanity and herself.

Proof will mark the Seton Hill directing debut of Dr. Terry Brino-Dean, new Assistant Professor of Theatre and Theatre Program Director. "Proof was the longest-running show on Broadway in 20 years," said Brino-Dean, "and Seton Hill Theatre is one of the first educational theatres in the country granted the rights to produce it. It’s a great opportunity for us." "The students are really engaged and open to change," he added, "and it makes for a great environment. We’re going to continue to do exciting things with Seton Hill Theatre."

The following students have been cast in the production: Sara Canter, daughter of Jeff and Kathy Canter of Fair Oaks, PA and senior musical theatre major has been cast in the role of Claire; Keith Gray, son of George and Angela Engelke of Pasadena, MD and senior theater performance major has been cast in the role of Hal; Matthew McDonough, son of John and Susan McDonough of St. Marys, PA and junior musical theatre major had been cast for the role of Robert; and Kelly Smogor, daughter of Robert Smogor of Derry, PA and junior theatre performance and theatre business management major has been cast for the role of Catherine.

Caitlin Marietti, daughter of Robert and Christina Marietti of Lower Burrell, PA and sophomore technical theatre major will serve as assistant stage manager for Proof; Kristen Secrist, daughter of Robin and Gerald Secrist of West Newton, PA and theatre performance major will serve as the assistant director; and JoAnna Terwilliger, daughter of John and Annie Ponikvar of Canonsburg, PA and sophomore technical theatre major will serve as the stage manager.

Proof will be presented November 13, 14, 15 at 8 p.m.; Sunday, November 16 at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.; November 14, 18, 19 at 10:30 a.m. All performances are held in Reeves Theatre on Seton Hill’s campus. Reeves Theatre is a disabled-accessible and climate-controlled facility. Parking is free.
