GREENSBURG, PA- The Seton Hill University Theatre department announced that Brian Johnston, translator and expert on playwright Henrik Ibsen, will be on the campus Sunday, November 17th to give a 30-minute presentation following the 2:00 p.m. performance of Ibsen’s A Doll House in Reeves Theatre. A reception will follow Johnston’s presentation. The presentation after the play is free and open to the public.

Brian Johnston has served as a professor of drama in the College of Fine Arts at Carnegie Mellon University since 1986. Prior to that, he taught at a number of institutions including: American University of Beruit in Lebanon; Yarmouk University in Irbid, Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan; University of Washington in Seattle; University of California at Santa Barbara; University of California at Berkeley; Northwestern University; Norges Laererhgskolen in Trondheim, Norway; and the University of Cambridge.

Johnston has published 13 articles on drama in refereed journals and four articles in anthologies including: Tragedy’s Insights; Identity, Polity, Theology; Ibsen, Strindberg, Pirandello, Beckett; Modernismen I Skandinavisk Litteratur Nordisk; Drama in the Twentieth Century, Vol.2.

He has written a number of critical books on playwright Henrik Ibsen including: The Ibsen Cycle, Text and Supertext in Ibsen’s Drama and To the Third Empire. Johnston also translated a number of Ibsen’s plays which appear in Ibsen Volume I: Four Major Plays; Ibsen Volume II: Four Plays; and Ibsen Volume III: Four Plays.

Johnston, an honorary member of The Ibsen Society of America, has served as a panelist/ lecturer at a number of conferences and seminars including: The Theatre of Eric Bentley Conference at New World School of the Arts in Miami, Florida; the Samuel Beckett Conference at Carnegie Mellon University; the Theatre of Eric Bentley Seminar at the University of Maryland; Seminar on Henrik Ibsen at Carnegie Mellon University and International Ibsen Conferences held in Bergen, Norway; Beijing, P.R. China; Gossenass, Italy; Grimstad, Norway; and Yale University.

The Seton Hill University production of A Doll House opens Tuesday, November 12th at 10:30 a.m. in Reeves Theatre. A Doll House will be repeated November 13 and 15 at 10:30 a.m.; November 14, 15 and 16 at 8:00 p.m.; and November 17 at 2:00 p.m. All performances are staged in Reeves Theatre on the University campus.
