Health Science Major (& EMT) Wendi Walsh Receives Full Scholarship from Army ROTC

2017 was a busy year for Wendi Walsh. It was the year she enlisted in the Pa. Army National Guard, spending 10 weeks at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri and 16 weeks at Fort Sam Houston, Texas. While in Texas, she trained to become a combat medic and earned her Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.

In 2018, Wendi hasn’t slowed down. In January, she started the year as a Seton Hill junior, having transferred the majority of her Westmoreland County Community College credits into Seton Hill’s Health Science Program. (Wendi completed an associate degree in health science at WCCC in 2016). As an ROTC student, Wendi has training and special classes to attend in addition to study in her major; she also works as an EMT in Mt. Pleasant, Pa. She plans to make a career of the military, and hopes to practice as a physician assistant in the National Guard after completing graduate school.

“SHU has been amazing for me, honestly; starting with my enrollment, to transferring my credits (military and non-military), to helping me through the ROTC process.”

Her hard work and perseverance are paying off: on April 11 Wendi received a full scholarship – plus allowances for books and supplies – from the Army ROTC for the 2.5 years it will take to complete her bachelor of science degree at Seton Hill.

The scholarship, according to Major Timothy Moreau, “is the culmination of a process that began several years ago, focusing on academic, physical fitness and leadership. Cadet Walsh can be extremely proud of her achievement as competition was keen.”

“SHU has been amazing for me, honestly; starting with my enrollment, to transferring my credits (military and non-military), to helping me through the ROTC process,” Wendi says. “I chose the military, and this program, for all the opportunities it provides me with!”
